Yunnan is the most geographically and meteorologically diversified
province in China. It was characteristic of a vertical climate
complex from tropical and subtropical climate in Xishuangbannan
and Golden Sand River estuary in the southwest of Yunnan with
an elevation of 76.4 meters above sea level, to the frigid
zones in Meli Snow Mountain in the northwest of Yunnan with
an elevation of 6,740 meters above sea level.

The rich and varied flora breeds in the complicated meteorological
and geographical conditions for which Yunnan is famous as
" Kingdom of Plants " - this lays the foundation for a great
variety of edible mushrooms, made Yunnan the province in China
richest in the deposit of natural edible mushrooms.
Of 2,000 species of edible mushrooms in the world, more than
600 grow in Yunnan, including some unusual and rare species
such as Tricholoma matsutake, known as "King of Mushrooms";
Dictyophora indusiata, known as "Queen of Fungi"; truffle, the
underground "Black Diamond"; famous Chinese traditional medicine
Poria cocos and Ganoderma incidum; highly nourishing Cordyceps
sinensis; delicious Boletus edulis; and Auricularia auricula
(wooden ear), Tremella mesenterica (golden ear), Termitomyces
ssp., Morchella conica (Morels), Lactarius delciosus, Lentinus
edodes (shiitake or oak mushroom), Russula virecens, Thelephors
gambajum, sehiophllum commune, Lyophyllus cinerascens and Pleurotus
ostreatus(oyster mushroom).
